What is Moving More?
Becoming more active and moving more in everyday life is an important part of staying healthy and happy. Being active means getting your heart rate up and can involve changing small parts of your daily routine such as taking the stairs instead of the lift or parking your car further away. It is important to ensure you are being active in your daily routine as well exercising. The recommended amount of exercise for adults is 150 minutes per week and children aged 5-16 years need to be active for at least 60 minutes per day.
Why is staying physically active important?
Physical activity has both immediate and long-term benefits which can improve your quality of life. Regular exercise is an important part of staying healthy as it reduces the risk of serious illnesses such as heart disease and strengthens bones and muscles. It can also help to maintain a healthy weight by burning calories and increasing the amount of time that you are still can increase your risk of weight gain and poor health. Being active also has a positive effect on emotional wellbeing through changing the levels of chemicals in your brain as well as increasing the opportunity for social contact and improving sleep patterns
What is available to me locally?
Let’s Get Moving supports inactive adults and those with long-term conditions to become more active. A FREE exercise-only programme for adults is offered to those who want to increase their physical activity. The programme runs for 8 weeks, and can monitor weight at the beginning and end of the programme too. A variety of exercise sessions- free-standing or chair-based classes, depending on needs are available in mixed gender or single sex settings.
