Healthy Ageing

What is Healthy Ageing?

The aim of healthy ageing is to enable people to take control of their health using lifestyle services such as smoking cessation, weight management and health checks to prevent or reduce their risk of long term health problems.

Encouraging health literacy amongst our ageing population can help improve overall physical, mental and emotional well-being.

Making small changes in middle age can have long lasting impacts and help keep you healthy well into old age. Increasing physical activity can reduce the risk of many conditions that will impact on future quality of life, including dementia, osteoarthritis and general physical limitations in older age, Specific activities such as yoga, tai chi and dancing can improve balance and co-ordination and reduce the risk of falling which can occur with ageing.

Why is Ageing Healthily important?

Healthy ageing is important as it encourages people to continue to be an active part of society and helps to maintain independence as well as improved physical and mental health.

Establishing healthy habits can lead to good health in the older population and improve quality of life and extend life expectancy. Which is beneficial for everyone.

Healthy ageing can start at any age, with benefits to all age groups in leading healthier lifestyles and the prevention of diseases.
