What is Eating Well?

Healthy eating is about eating a balanced diet which contains a variety of foods. This includes eating plenty of fruit and vegetables and starchy foods such as wholemeal bread and wholegrain cereals; some protein rich foods such as meat, fish, eggs and lentils and some dairy foods.


Why is eating healthily important?

Eating a healthy, balanced diet provides nutrients to your body. These nutrients give you energy and keep your heart beating, your brain active, and your muscles working. It also helps you to maintain a healthy weight.

Eating well is essential for good health and wellbeing, and contributes to reducing the risk of conditions including heart disease, stroke, some cancers, diabetes and osteoporosis.

Shape up 4 Life

Around two in three Peterborough adults are either overweight or obese. Shape up 4 Life is a free weight adult management service comprising of healthy eating workshops and exercise sessions that helps you to change that.

If you’re overweight, the good news is that by reducing your body weight by just 5-10%, health risks are significantly reduced. It can boost confidence and self-esteem. Let’s Get Healthy

In case you are worried about the weight of your child between 4-12 years of age, FREE healthy lifestyles Let’s Get Healthy Clubs running in schools and community settings.

They are interactive and fun sessions. Workshops include learning about sugary drinks and food swapping for healthier snacks, making smoothies, and blindfold fruit & veg taste testing, and activities and games such as parachute games and shuttle races.
